The Opportunity

The Fund For Future African Brands (FFAB) aims to build a portfolio of consumer facing enterprises across the food, clothing, renewable energy and affordable housing sectors in Africa by realising the creative and productive power of the continent and its Diaspora.

Established as a fund with a blended finance model FFAB is, through venture capital investment, partnerships, project selection, support services and delivery of technical assistance, committed to a modern, productive, creative, dynamic and influential African culture made by Africans for Africans and the world.

My Role

To date have been providing strategy & operational support including:

  • Reviewing fund structure & outreach to potential co-investors / sourcing capital as well as engaging African nation states’ financial centres established to facilitate international investment and cross-border transactions

  • Network building & facilitating founder’s visit to Kenya and Rwanda to validate model with impact funds / commercial partners & qualify pipeline ventures

  • Exploring addressable market & determining fund’s serviceable obtainable market

  • Establishing contracts with commercial organisations including making a referral to an advisory services firm that has presence across East Africa, with this collaboration focussed on business modelling, blended finance structuring and financial management services to get FFAB investment ready

  • Relocating talent from the UK to East Africa

  • Setting up an enterprise pipeline qualification process

Results

From 2025 onwards set to help fund:

  • Select early-stage startups with potential to scale

  • Create target-driven models & roadmaps

  • Establish strategic partnerships between investors, entrepreneurs, their product & creative partners

  • Deploy seed capital & technical assistance

  • Increase market access for portfolio companies

  • Measure social impact & return on investments

  • Raise follow-on funding for fund plus portfolio
